There are all kinds of things happening today as a direct result of the new iPad launch, and discounts are a part of them. Rogers and Telus have both come out with similar offers for their flex rate plans.

Telus is offering to waive the activation fee, and charge you for the bottom tier at $5 no matter how much data you use for the first 2 months. According to their website, the offer expires on April 30th, so those who couldn?t get their hands on an iPad today can still take advantage.

Rogers? offer is similar, waiving the activation fee, and offering up unlimited data for the first 2 months, promising no overages past the highest tier - $37/month. They will also double the amount of data included in each tier of their flex plan for 4 months after your unlimited period has ended. There is no clear expiration date for this promotion, but it is marked as limited time.

These are some great offers for those considering mobile data for their new or old tablet, including the new iPad. Head to Rogers or Telus to sign up!

Perfectly in line with the launch of the new LTE enabled iPad, Virgin mobile has gone live with their LTE network. It piggy-backs off of Bell?s network, and is currently active in major urban areas including Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Yellowknife, and many cities in Southern Ontario including Toronto, London, Kitchener, and more. Of course, in order to support the new iPad, they are now offering LTE microSIM cards as well.

As for prices, they have decided to keep things simple and straight-forward, extending their existing Flexi-Data plan for tablets to include 4G LTE. This starts at $5/month for 10 MB, after which, it steps up to $15 for 250 MB. If you exceed 250 MB of usage, you enter the last tier of 5 GB for $35/month. Overages beyond 5 GB are charged at 1.5 cents/MB.

Pre-orders for the new iPad have reached their limit in Canada and internationally, but those who are still determined to pick one up still have hope. Apple retail stores as well as Future Shop will be opening their doors at 8am this Friday, March 16th. No word on how much stock each will have, or if all Future Shop locations will have inventory come launch day, but it may be worth a try for those who just can?t wait for the next waves of shipments from Apple.

As a reminder, pricing starts at $519 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model, while the 16GB LTE version begins at $649.

Just as everybody expected, Apple announced their new iPad model today. It features a variety of minor upgrades over the iPad 2, but features a couple of major improvements such as the display and 4G LTE connectivity. The 9.7? screen, with an incredible resolution of 2048 x 1536, is being called the ?Retina? display despite it missing the mark that the iPhone 4 hits. This might not be the end of the world, however, since users typically hold the tablet further from their eyes than their smartphones. The other major plus is the 4G LTE option, with Rogers, Bell, and Telus already confirmed to be launching the tablet.

Other features include upgraded quad-core graphics processing and a 5MP rear facing camera with face detection, capable of 1080p video recording with image stabilization. As for battery life, Apple is claiming that it will get 10 hours of battery life, reduced to 9 hours for LTE connected iPads. Physical dimensions come in slightly bulkier than the iPad 2, at 9.4mm thin and 1.4lbs.

So when can you get your hands on one? It?s up for pre-order now on Apple?s website, and is confirmed to be coming to Rogers, Telus and Bell. On Apple?s website, they mention that pre-order shipments are expected for delivery between March 16th and 20th. Pricing for the Wi-Fi model comes in at $519 for 16GB model, $619 for the 32GB, and $719 for 64GB. The Wi-Fi + LTE option will cost you $649 for the 16GB version, $749 for the 32GB, and $849 for the 64GB. It will be available in both black and white. As a result of the near-future launch, Apple has reduced the price of the iPad 2 by $100 for each model ? good news for those looking for some savings!

The Samsung Galaxy S series of handsets, including the Fascinate, Captivate, and Vibrant have been favourites of Canadians since their launch last year. Even the Galaxy Tab did well, being one of the first tablets available besides Apple's iPad. Unfortunately, all of these devices have been stuck on Froyo since at least December of last year, and while speculation pointed to a future Gingerbread update, confirmation was still awaited.

Finally, Samsung has announced that they will be pushing Android 2.3 Gingerbread out to all Galaxy S devices, including the Tab. The European market will get the updates first, expected "mid-May", so they should see it any day now. Unfortunately no word was given regarding Canada specifically, but they did say that it would be "gradually rolled out to other European markets, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, Africa, and the rest of the world according to the regional plan".

Hopefully Canadians can get all of the features and benefits of Gingerbread on the Galaxy S handsets and Tab soon! Despite the lack of clear details, we're expecting it to be available by mid-Summer at the latest, but that's just our best guess!

Canadians shopping around for a new tablet already have a few options available (iPad, XOOM, PlayBook, Galaxy Tab), but are going to have a lot more in the near-future. The Acer Iconia 10" tablet, which has an "estimated release date" of May 13th, is coming to Future Shop locations across Canada soon.

The Iconia runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and has a 10.1" (1280x800) touchscreen LCD display, along with a 5MP camera with LED flash, and a front-facing 2MP camera. Powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of DDR2 RAM, the Iconia's specs can keep up with the best tablet in today's market. Other notable features include an HDMI port, the Acer UI laid on top of Android, and bluetooth.

The Acer Iconia is set to launch on May 13th for $499.99 from Future Shop. No word yet if other stores will offer the relatively unknown tablet, but we'll keep you up to date on any further news regarding the Acer Iconia!

We recently let you know that Telus was getting set to officially launch the Android-powered Motorola XOOM. They have recently done so, offering up the popular tablet for $599.99 outright, which is the same pricing as Future Shop and Best Buy who released it a couple weeks ago.

To provide a quick recap on the Motorola XOOM's specifications, it features a 10.1" (800x1280) touchscreen display, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, and 1GB of RAM. The XOOM runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and serves as a great Android alternative to the BlackBerry PlayBook and Apple iPad.

The Motorola XOOM is now available from Telus for $599.99 contract-free. Since it is a Wi-Fi only device, it is doubtful that we'll see contract-pricing for the tablet. Remember though, you can tether your Android 2.2 Froyo (or higher) devices using hotspot functionality to get data on the go, a process similar to that which the PlayBook uses.

The Android-powered Motorola XOOM has been very anticipated in Canada, serving as the best competition to the iPad 2. Starting today, the Motorola XOOM is available for online orders from Future Shop and Best Buy. Come Friday morning, we'll also be able to purchase them in-store at either store. No word yet on when exactly Telus will launch the tablet, but they confirmed a couple weeks back that they would be offering it this Spring.

The Motorola XOOM has a 10.1" (800x1280) touchscreen display, and runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Featuring a 5MP camera with dual-LED flash and 720p HD video capture and 2MP front-facing camera, the Motorola XOOM is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and GPS.

The Wi-Fi only Motorola XOOM is available for online purchase now for $599.99 from Future Shop and Best Buy. If you're interested in a 3G enabled version, Telus will be following up on their Wi-Fi only XOOM launch with a 3G version later this year, but no specific dates are available yet.

Apple has recently launched their highly-anticipated iPad 2 in Canada, and it has been a huge success thus far. Both Wi-Fi only, and Wi-Fi + 3G models are available, in a variety of storage sizes. For a Wi-Fi only version, you're looking at $519 for a 16GB model, $619 for the 32GB version, and $719 for the 64GB model. Those interested in picking one up with 3G connectivity, price points currently sit at $649 for the 16GB model, $749 for 32GB, and $849 for the huge 64GB version.

The iPad 2 brings with it a number of improvements over it's predecessor, including a 1GHz dual-core A5 processor. Users will also benefit from the LED-backlit display, 720p HD video recording capabilities of the rear-facing camera, and of course the newly added front-facing camera for facetime, and more. At only 8.8mm thick, the iPad 2 isn't just high-powered, it also looks great.

Apple's iPad 2 is available now to Canadians, and you can pick one up from an Apple retail store, FutureShop/Best Buy, or Rogers, Bell, or Telus. So who picked one up?

Just last week, the word broke that Motorola's XOOM tablet would be making it's way to Canada, sometime in April. Originally, FutureShop had it listed with an estimated release date of April 8th, but that has now been pushed back to the 15th. The tablet, which will be offered through Telus as well, brings a slew of features that help it compete with the recently released iPad 2. As far we can tell, contract-free pricing is still looking like $599.99, but it's always possible for changes to be made prior to the official launch. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any further advancements regarding the Motorola XOOM's release date and pricing, so stay tuned!
