A couple short weeks ago, we let you know that Sony had announced that they were shipping the Xperia S globally, but nothing specific was confirmed for Canada. Now, Sony has come forward with a press release stating that the Android device will be available on April 17th in limited quantities, exclusively from the Sony Store. As for pricing and carrier availability, they make mention that it is compatible with the Rogers network, and later stated that it would be available for $99.99 on a 3 year term through Rogers. Whether Sony will later allow Rogers to sell the handset or not hasn?t been revealed as of yet, and no mention of other carriers seeing the device in the future was made either.

The Sony Xperia S features a 4.3? (1280 x 720) Reality Display with the Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor. It comes with a 12 MP rear-facing camera with Sony Exmor R for mobile technology, which is capable or recording 1080p video. It also has a front-facing camera capable of 720p video capture, and offers up NFC connectivity, along with the regular connectivity support such as HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. It will launch running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, however it?s apparently set for an ICS upgrade in the coming months.

Samsung's Google Nexus S has created quite a bit of excitement in Canada lately, with at least 8 carriers planning to release the handset. Thus far, 3 carriers have officially launched the Nexus S, including Telus, Videotron, and Mobilicity.

Telus originally put the Android-powered Nexus S up for $549 contract-free, and $179.99 on a 3 year term. While the 3 year price point has remained consistent, they did go ahead and drop the outright cost to $499.99. Videotron has launched it for $529.95 outright, and $149.95 "Reduced price". Lastly, Mobilicity has also made the Nexus S available, for $499.99 contract-free.

Those holding out for other carriers, Best Buy has put up the Rogers, Fido, and KOODO versions on their site, though they aren't available for shipping yet. Rogers and Fido will each be charging $99.99 on a 3 year term, or $499.99 contract-free. KOODO's version will be available for $274.99 using their Tab, or $424.99 outright. Bell and WIND Mobile are also set to launch the Nexus S, though we haven't received any definite information on pricing.

We're seeing Canadian companies take advantage of smartphones and popular mobile platforms more and more, and it's nice to see UPS Canada joining in. The UPS application is now available for free on Android and BlackBerry, through either Market or App World. If you're someone who ships or receives a number of items via UPS, this app is great as it allows you to track packages, find UPS locations, and get quotes. Those with UPS accounts can also create shipments and send themselves shipping labels via e-mail for printing once on a computer.

Bell and Virgin Mobile were originally supposed to launch the BlackBerry Bold 9780 on October 21st, which was then pushed back to November 2nd. Now, for unknown reasons, the launch has been delayed once again, though no updated launch date has been made available as of yet. Speculation is pointing at last minute OS updates being the cause of the delay, much like we saw with the Torch 9800, though this hasn't been confirmed. Hopefully we'll see the device launch soon, and many think it should be ready and shipping by next week.

The HTC Desire has been one of Telus' most successful Android handsets, so it didn't come as much of a surprise when it was marked as sold-out. Thankfully, the Desire is back in stock, though limited quantities are available, and according to the website, shipping may take up to 10 days. If you're looking to pick up the Desire, make sure to grab one soon, as a device this powerful is likely to sell out once again!

Remember, the Desire is set to get an upgrade to Android 2.2 sometime this month, and at just $79.99 on a 3 year term, or $449.99 outright, this is definitely one to look at!

We recently let you know that Sasktel was set to launch the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant on August 25th, however due to shipping delays, the launch has been pushed back to "early next week". Along with the delay announcement on Twitter, they also confirmed the pricing of the new Android device, which will be $150 on a 3 year term, or $645 contract-free. Saskatchewan residents can get their hands on a Vibrant S now if they'd like, since Bell just launched their HSPA+ network in the province, and contract-free pricing is considerably lower than Sasktel's.
