This is a bit of an odd scenario, one we don?t see too often. Sony recently announced their first device following their takeover of Sony Ericsson, the Xperia S, and clearly stated that it would be available globally in March. As such, it has been assumed that the device will land in Canada, though which carrier is unknown. Recently, Sony announced that the device has shipped globally, but that they?re leaving it up to carriers to announce specific availability.

Next, Sony posted an image on their Facebook page that made clear mention the device would be heading to Rogers. What most saw as a clear-cut indication turned out to be some kind of mistake, however. Sony removed the image from their Facebook page, and Rogers stated that they will not be selling the device directly, though it will work on their network. This has led to some back-and-forth online, with many people believing the handset will be sold unlocked in Sony Stores rather than through carriers. This would certainly be an interesting step for Sony to take, and if they?re going that route, it will be interesting to see the results.

The Sony Xperia S features a 4.3? (720 x 1280) display, and a 12 MP camera with LED flash and 1080p HD video capture. It has a secondary front-facing 1.3 MP camera capable of 720p video recording, and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with ICS planned for Q2 sometime. Similarly to most recent Xperia handsets, it features the Mobile BRAVIA Engine and connectivity including HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. It also comes with NFC capabilities, and is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM.

We just let you know that Sasktel has introduced a couple tablet data packages, and it looks like they've followed up by making microSIM cards available to the public. Customers can now purchase a microSIM card for use with their unlocked iPhone 4's or iPads for $10 each, or receive one for free "with device purchase on post paid contract", which can only mean a near-future iPhone 4 launch. According to sources, the Saskatchewan carrier will be launching the iPhone 4 sometime around Christmas, though no official confirmation has been received as of yet.

A rumour surfaced recently claiming the BlackBerry Pearl 3G would be coming to WIND Mobile soon, and at a price point of $320 outright. It turns out the rumour was true, and this handset is finally available and no longer labeled "Coming Soon". WIND Mobile are currently offering a $20 discount on the device as well, bringing it down to just $300. Even without the discount, this is the lowest unlocked price in the country currently, and is a great device for those who like the Pearl look and feel, but want 3G speeds and the upcoming BlackBerry 6 operating system.

KOODO Mobile has started preparing for their upcoming HSPA network launch, with internal systems showing information on SIM card testing. KOODO, a subsidiary of Telus Mobility, will be using Telus' HSPA network to deliver a better quality experience to customers across Canada, in addition to providing the freedom of using compatible unlocked HSPA handsets.

While no launch date has been released as of yet, we should see the network up and running in the near-future, with device announcements coming around the same time.

Here is probably the best-known device in the world, the iPhone from Apple. It is not yet available for sale in Canada and if it is finally one day in 2008 will be available at Rogers, Videotron Fido or because of the GSM network that these three companies use. It is a unique device that is really well designed it as well as Apple. The screen is of very high quality, the software interface is very simple and very pleasant to use not to mention the WiFi connection. I want to thank the folks at Cellengros.com who provided us unlock the device that worked perfectly.

We received a lot of e-mail (Thanks Migg and Gadgetorama) informing us that the Canadian web site of Apple posted a conference on the iPhone in Eaton Center of Toronto. We have been get a photo of the screen announcing this event. This is a conference to teach you how to use your "new iPhone." The meetings are scheduled on Saturday afternoons from 10 November to 24 November. It also seems possible to register for these meetings, but the Apple site informs us that the activity is now "reserved". You be the judge, maybe is just an error of Apple Webmaster but it really begins to feel the iPhone.

That fact, the iPhone no longer appears on the website of Moslon and rules of the contest have disappeared as if by magic. We have contacted the customer service, which informed us that it was not really an iPhone from Rogers, but an iPhone that the company Moslon purchases in the United States and would "operate in Canada." For those who follow the news iPhone a little, you know very well that it is not possible to do such a thing without attracting problems with Apple. We are still awaiting news of representatives from Molson in Montreal. Rogers say "no comment" and that Apple should not comment for the moment.

We have know informationa bout a contest, organized by the Canadian beer company Molson and Moslon Dry, offered a iPhone for prize. A website of Moslon ( www.deviseetcompte.com Twist and Score) mentions that the iPhone, which is offered in the contest will be available only in January 2008 from Rogers. We have contacted the customer service representative and she said, yes it's a iPhone from Rogers. The iPhone won at Molson can be won now, but not work before the announcement officially by Rogers and also offers its clients in January 2008, according to the representative of customer service. The site is only available in French, however, provides the rules of contest in English in which we also found a mention of Apple iPhone. It seems that the iPhone will be available at a price of $ 800, and as the iPhone is not sold without a contract it can be assumed that the iPhone will be very expensive here in Canada. This contest end on January 4, 2008.

UPDATE October 24 13h37
We have contact media represent of Rogers and Rogers Wireless "Have no comment" and they recommand to contact Molson for more information. No answer from Molson at this time...

According to Technaute.com, which is the Web site techno LaPresse newspaper, Montreal guys would have succeeded in using an iPhone on the network of Rogers. Marc-Andre, who wants to conceal his surname in order to avoid problems with Rogers, but who should rather be wary of Apple, with successful uses TurboSIM of it to be made function his iPhone on the network of Rogers. In fact, really it is not a question of a releasing since it is absolutely necessary to use the TurboSIM card which costs at least 200 $ on Internet. The iPhone of Marc-Andre would function perfectly safe as regards the function ?Visual VoiceMail? which makes it possible to record visual messages since this function can function only if the operator installed the servers necessary. Like Rogers often confirmed it to us, Rogers is not really interested of knowing which kind of telephone you use with your SIM card as long as you do not use the network of Rogers fraudulently. It should however be noted that the YouTube function will be very expensive for Marc-Andree since Rogers did not lower yet his prices of transfer of mobile data like the Bell and Telus a few days ago.
