We just let you know that Sony was preparing to release the "Sony Tablet", which is now officially known as the Tablet S. The Tablet S has been confirmed to be $500 for the 16GB model, or $600 for the 32GB version. Additionally, Sony confirmed that it will be launching in September, though an exact date wasn't provided. Hopefully this means mid-September as previously speculated.

The Sony Tablet S features a 9.4" (1280x800) touchscreen display, and is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor. It's PlayStation certified, and is advertised to be usable as a TV remote as well. Running on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the Tablet S will have a lot of competition, but should see its fair share of sales.

We let you know some time ago that Bell was preparing to launch the super-affordable HTC Wildfire S, and followed up shortly with news that Virgin would also release it. Bell was first up to make the Android 2.3 powered handset available, and now we've received word that the Virgin launch is just around the corner.

The Wildfire S features a 3.2" (320x480) touchscreen Gorilla Glass display, and is powered by a 600MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. It also features a 5MP camera with LED flash and VGA video capture, and comes with 512MB of ROM storage for applications and setting data. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi (b/g/n, hotspot), bluetooth, and GPS, and supports HSPA data speeds reaching a maximum of 7.2 Mbps.

The HTC Wildfire S is available now from Bell for $0 on a 3 year term (originally $29.95, but placed on sale already!), and $249.95 contract-free. Virgin Mobile will be offering it up any day now for $29.99 on a 3 year term or using the SuperTab, and outright pricing is consistent with Bell's, coming in at $249.99. Saskatchewan residents can also expect to get their hands on the device via Sasktel, though details are much more scarce regarding their launch.

Telus has recently introduced a sale, discounting 3 of their most popular handsets until May 8th. The Samsung Nexus S has been reduced to $99.99 on a 3 year term, while Fascinate (3G version) has been made free, also with a 3 year contract. The BlackBerry Torch 9800 has seen a price drop as well for the duration of this sale, coming in at $79.99 with a contract. Unfortunately outright costs haven't been changed, but it's still great to see sales of any kind.

We let you know quite some time ago that Rogers would be launching the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, an Android handset that features a 4" (480 x 800) Super AMOLED display, 5MP camera with 720p HD video capture, and a 1GHz processor to help power it all. Due to a number of delays, the handset is still yet to be released, though Rogers have provided an update stating:

"We anticipated launching earlier, but there has been a manufacturing delay. As a result, we expect the device will be on sale by mid-October. Pre-orders have also been pushed back, and we hope to make them available later this week."

Hopefully this won't hurt Rogers too badly, considering Bell has been offering the Galaxy S Vibrant for some time now, and Telus has the likes of the HTC Desire to lure Android-addicted Canadians to their network. With the X10 running an outdated OS, the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate will be a much-needed addition to their device line-up, so lets hope there are no more delays!

Chatr, the newest discount brand owned by Rogers, quietly launched in Montreal about a week ago. There are a number of retail outlets for those interested to visit, including Futureshop, Wireless Wave, Zellers, and an official Chatr store located at 705 Rue Ste Catherine O. With any luck, the increased competition in Montreal will result in even cheaper plans and devices, and it seems Chatr is looking to get that started by putting their entire device line-up on sale. Montreal residents, are you thinking about signing up with Chatr?

RIM has 3 launch events planned for Canada to celebrate the release of the Torch 9800, their new vertical sliding BlackBerry with a touchscreen and BlackBerry 6. The events, which are scheduled for the 21st - 23rd will take place in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. In previous rumours, we heard that Telus would be launching the device on the 16th, and thanks to leaked Futureshop screenshots, we have a bit more information on the Rogers launch. Apparently the device will go on "pre-sale" effective the 15th, and with the launch events happening just a week later, Canadians can start counting down.

While Rogers is still offering this device at $99 on a 3 year term, it looks as though Futureshop and Best Buy have put the X10 on sale, temporarily slashing their prices by $20 -$25. Futureshop's sale ends August 19th, and they're willing to throw in a $75 gift card usable towards accessories for your new device. Best Buy is offering their sale until August 26th, and they are tossing in a $100 gift card. Remember, the X10's smaller version, the X10 Mini is also available from Rogers for just $29.99 on a 3 year term, or $374.99 contract-free, so if you're looking for a more affordable option, that may be a device to consider.
