Earlier this month, we let you know that Google announced Honeycomb 3.1 for tablets, and the Motorola XOOM got it almost immediately for U.S. customers. Soon afterwards, Motorola Canada let users know, via Facebook, that the update would be coming Canadians "soon". Now, they have come forward on Facebook once again, this time stating "Our best estimate is that it will be available in the next couple of months."

While the news that Motorola is still working on the update is good, it does come as a bit of a disappointment to XOOM owners that it will take a couple of months. Hopefully they will take action with all of the feedback they've received and push it out sooner, but only time will tell.

At Google I/O last week, a variety of announcements came our way regarding Android. Ice Cream Sandwich, Movie Rentals, and more were announced. One of the other items unveiled at the event was Honeycomb OS 3.1, the next update in the tablet-specific OS. Included in the update are a variety of new featurs, including resizable widgets, USB accessory support, and more.

Unfortunately, like with most events of this type in the U.S., Canada wasn't really discussed a whole lot. U.S. Motorola XOOM owners began seeing the update shortly after the announcement, while there has been no sign of it north of the border. Finally, Motorola Canada came forward on Facebook and declared that the update is coming soon. No specific dates were provided, but they did say:

"Some of the feature upgrades include basic external SD card support for general SD file and media access, expanded support for USB-connected accessories, additional Bluetooth support and Picture Transfer Protocol to enable easier transfer of photo files to your PC."

Certainly great news for Canadian XOOM owners!

Canadians shopping around for a new tablet already have a few options available (iPad, XOOM, PlayBook, Galaxy Tab), but are going to have a lot more in the near-future. The Acer Iconia 10" tablet, which has an "estimated release date" of May 13th, is coming to Future Shop locations across Canada soon.

The Iconia runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and has a 10.1" (1280x800) touchscreen LCD display, along with a 5MP camera with LED flash, and a front-facing 2MP camera. Powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of DDR2 RAM, the Iconia's specs can keep up with the best tablet in today's market. Other notable features include an HDMI port, the Acer UI laid on top of Android, and bluetooth.

The Acer Iconia is set to launch on May 13th for $499.99 from Future Shop. No word yet if other stores will offer the relatively unknown tablet, but we'll keep you up to date on any further news regarding the Acer Iconia!

We recently let you know that Telus was getting set to officially launch the Android-powered Motorola XOOM. They have recently done so, offering up the popular tablet for $599.99 outright, which is the same pricing as Future Shop and Best Buy who released it a couple weeks ago.

To provide a quick recap on the Motorola XOOM's specifications, it features a 10.1" (800x1280) touchscreen display, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, and 1GB of RAM. The XOOM runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and serves as a great Android alternative to the BlackBerry PlayBook and Apple iPad.

The Motorola XOOM is now available from Telus for $599.99 contract-free. Since it is a Wi-Fi only device, it is doubtful that we'll see contract-pricing for the tablet. Remember though, you can tether your Android 2.2 Froyo (or higher) devices using hotspot functionality to get data on the go, a process similar to that which the PlayBook uses.

The Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi only version has been available from Future Shop and Best Buy for just over a week, but we've been waiting for news from Telus, who officially stated that they would be offering it as well. Finally, information has surfaced online providing a release date for the XOOM from Telus - Tuesday, April 19th.

The Motorola XOOM is a 10.1" Android-powered tablet that runs on Honeycomb 3.0. It features an 800x1280 display, 5MP camera with dual-LED flash and 720p HD video capture, and a secondary 2MP front-facing camera. The XOOM is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Wireless connectivity options include bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, and the XOOM comes with an HDMI port for use with your big screen.

The Motorola XOOM should be available effective tomorrow from Telus for $599.99 contract-free.

The Android-powered Motorola XOOM has been very anticipated in Canada, serving as the best competition to the iPad 2. Starting today, the Motorola XOOM is available for online orders from Future Shop and Best Buy. Come Friday morning, we'll also be able to purchase them in-store at either store. No word yet on when exactly Telus will launch the tablet, but they confirmed a couple weeks back that they would be offering it this Spring.

The Motorola XOOM has a 10.1" (800x1280) touchscreen display, and runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Featuring a 5MP camera with dual-LED flash and 720p HD video capture and 2MP front-facing camera, the Motorola XOOM is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and GPS.

The Wi-Fi only Motorola XOOM is available for online purchase now for $599.99 from Future Shop and Best Buy. If you're interested in a 3G enabled version, Telus will be following up on their Wi-Fi only XOOM launch with a 3G version later this year, but no specific dates are available yet.

Just last week, the word broke that Motorola's XOOM tablet would be making it's way to Canada, sometime in April. Originally, FutureShop had it listed with an estimated release date of April 8th, but that has now been pushed back to the 15th. The tablet, which will be offered through Telus as well, brings a slew of features that help it compete with the recently released iPad 2. As far we can tell, contract-free pricing is still looking like $599.99, but it's always possible for changes to be made prior to the official launch. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any further advancements regarding the Motorola XOOM's release date and pricing, so stay tuned!

We just let you know that Telus would officially be offering up the Motorola Xoom, but that isn't the only new Motorola product they'll be launching. In the press release announcing the Xoom, Telus also informed the public that they would soon be launching the Motorola DEFY. The DEFY features a 3.7" (480x854) Gorilla Glass display, 2GB of internal memory, and 512MB of RAM. Expected to run Android 2.2 Froyo at launch, the DEFY has a 5MP camera with LED flash, and features connectivity options including Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and GPS. No word yet on pricing or exact availability, but we're sure to hear more information about the Motorola DEFY soon, and will be sure to share it!

The tablet market is certainly heating up in Canada, with the iPad 2 launching in the very near-future, a couple of new Samsung tabs hiding around the corner, and RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook launch expected next month. Motorola is looking to be a part of the competition in Canada, and seem to have teamed up with multiple vendors to offer the Motorola Xoom. The Wi-Fi only version of the tablet is expected to launch around April 8th, with FutureShop accepting pre-orders for the popular Honeycomb device. Telus also confirmed that they would be offering the Motorola Xoom, though it will be the Wi-Fi only version as well. They do, however, remind users that they can use any hotspot enabled Android handset to tether their Wi-Fi only tablets, so those with relatively new Android devices already should be covered.

According to Telus' press release, the Motorola Xoom will be available for as little as $599.99. We'll be sure to let you know if any other carriers announce that the Xoom is coming to their line-up, and any confirmation of pricing or availability that comes our way.
