Chatr, the newest discount brand owned by Rogers, quietly launched in Montreal about a week ago. There are a number of retail outlets for those interested to visit, including Futureshop, Wireless Wave, Zellers, and an official Chatr store located at 705 Rue Ste Catherine O. With any luck, the increased competition in Montreal will result in even cheaper plans and devices, and it seems Chatr is looking to get that started by putting their entire device line-up on sale. Montreal residents, are you thinking about signing up with Chatr?

Despite the antenna and reception issues experienced by users outside of Canada who got their hands on the iPhone 4 last month, many Canadians are still excited to get one of these devices. We know the second wave of the launch was announced as July 30th, and within the last week or so both Telus and Bell have began advertising that same release date, offering even more confirmation. Additionally, Best Buy Canada has gotten an early start, selling iPhone 4 accessories already.

The only real question remains, will there be an early upgrade program for the iPhone 4 in Canada? Rogers customer service representatives seem to think so, but confirmation is yet to be received. We'll be sure to let you know once more information is released.

A few weeks ago, we let you know that Montreal-based iBwave launched innovative new smartphone software that would allow telecom/wireless providers to optimize coverage and network performance indoors, and it seems WIND Mobile has taken notice to their success in the field as well. iBwave has been officially selected by WIND Mobile to help plan and design their indoor/underground network in Toronto's PATH - a 27km indoor/underground network of walkways providing access to 50 buildings and over 1200 businesses. Optimizing this portion of their network is a great move on WIND Mobile's part, as over 100 000 people use these walkways each day.
