At Google I/O last week, a variety of announcements came our way regarding Android. Ice Cream Sandwich, Movie Rentals, and more were announced. One of the other items unveiled at the event was Honeycomb OS 3.1, the next update in the tablet-specific OS. Included in the update are a variety of new featurs, including resizable widgets, USB accessory support, and more.

Unfortunately, like with most events of this type in the U.S., Canada wasn't really discussed a whole lot. U.S. Motorola XOOM owners began seeing the update shortly after the announcement, while there has been no sign of it north of the border. Finally, Motorola Canada came forward on Facebook and declared that the update is coming soon. No specific dates were provided, but they did say:

"Some of the feature upgrades include basic external SD card support for general SD file and media access, expanded support for USB-connected accessories, additional Bluetooth support and Picture Transfer Protocol to enable easier transfer of photo files to your PC."

Certainly great news for Canadian XOOM owners!

People all over the world have been waiting for next-generation devices to be announced/unveiled, and Samsung is looking to get things started by announcing the Galaxy S II late last week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Galaxy S II (model: GT-I9100) features a 4.27" (800x480) Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, along with an 8MP camera with 1080p HD video capture, and a front-facing 2MP camera. Coming in at just 8.49mm thick, this upcoming handset from Samsung packs in a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage memory. If you're looking for a feature-rich and high-specification device, it may be worth the wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II! No word yet on pricing, or when the handset will make it's way to Canada, but hopefully we'll see it launch fairly soon!

Today, HTC unveiled 5 of their upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices, and among them is a Telus exclusive in Canada - the HTC 7 Surround. The HTC 7 Surround features the newly designed and announced Windows Phone 7 operating system, along with some impressive, and highly competitive hardware specifications to back it up.

Featuring a 3.8" (480x800) touch screen, 5MP camera capable of recording 720p HD video, and 16GB of internal storage, this Telus exclusive is perfect for capturing or experiencing media of any kind. One of the most unique features is the slide-out speaker system that offers up virtual surround sound and high quality audio so users can use the device to experience media along side others, rather than cutting themselves off from friends by popping in headphones. Powered by a 1GHz processor, you can be sure that device certainly won't lack power or speed, and should easily compare to top of the line handsets running on other platforms.

Expected sometime later this month, there is no definite word on pricing as of yet, but it's likely to come in around the $200 mark on a 3 year term. What do you think about the HTC 7 Surround and Windows Phone 7? Let us know in the forums!
