Many X10 users were hoping to get pinch-to-zoom along with the Android 2.1 OS update, though the feature wasn't included unfortunately. In the past, Sony Ericsson has stated that the feature will never come to the X10, however they've recently reconsidered the idea and have decided to provide it in an OTA update sometime in Q1 next year. Apparently the feature won't be available to all markets, so fingers crossed that we get it here in Canada. Additionally, they have stated that the feature will only be available for select uses, such as web browsing and Google Maps. We'll be sure to let you know if more information becomes available.

MTS has recently stated their HSPA network is undergoing technical testing, and would be launched for the customer use sometime in Q1 2011, which is a bit delayed from their previous stated expectations. Despite the upcoming network launch, MTS has launched a new Android device on their CDMA network - the Motorola Milestone A854. The Milestone A854 features a 3.7" touch screen, full QWERTY keyboard, 5MP camera, and runs Android 2.1 Eclair. MTS has made the Milestone available for $179.99 on a 3 year term, though it looks like contract-free pricing is not available.

There has been a lot of talk recently in the mobile and tablet worlds about the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook that RIM recently announced. The PlayBook features a 7" screen, dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, front and rear facing cameras (high definition), and a slew of other features. One of the most interesting parts about the PlayBook is the OS, which has been developed using QNX technology, and it's out-of-box support for BES, Flash 10.1, etc.

According to recent information published online, the BlackBerry PlayBook will be launching sometime in Q1 2011, and at least one model will be priced under $500. Since the PlayBook will likely be coming in multiple versions (8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 3G/No 3G), we'll likely see the lower memory non-3G versions launch at the $500 mark, but only time will tell for sure. Stay tuned for more information as it's released!

Telus Mobility has announced their intention to launch an enhanced 3G+ network, using Dual Cell technology to offer data speeds of up to 42 Mb/s. According to Telus, this new network technology is consistent with their evolution towards LTE, and testing was completed in early July. Devices supporting this technology are expected in Q1 of 2011, so the network launch should take place at the same time.

Apparently Bell has been conducting internal trials of the same duel-cell technology, so it could be that Bell and Telus will team up to offer the new network just as they did for 3G and 3G+. No further details are available as of right now, but we'll be sure to keep you updated as soon as they arrive.
