Samsung?s Galaxy Note has been a popular device in Canada, and has proven to be one of the best available for those who don?t mind the large size. And while the Tab line-up of tablets has been important in the progress of Android tablets in the market, it?s no surprise that Samsung is pushing the ?Note? name further. Scheduled for release sometime in the coming months, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 should merge the two series together, and has the specifications required to be successful.

Originally, the Note 10.1 was demonstrated to include a dual-core 1.4 GHz processor and the S Pen stylus, but no room in the hardware itself to store it when not in use. Now, thanks to newly leaked information, we know that the processor has been upgraded to a quad-core Exynos processor with a powerful Mali-T604 graphics chip. Additionally, Samsung has incorporated an S Pen slot, a move that makes a lot of sense. Other features include its 10.1? (800 x 1280) touch screen display and 3.15 MP camera with LED flash and 1080p HD video capture. The Note 10.1 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, comes with 1 GB of RAM, and is set to be a Wi-Fi only tablet.

While nothing has been confirmed regarding a Canadian launch, Samsung has been relatively good about getting their devices to Canada recently, so we should see the device shortly after the United States does. Pricing is still unknown as well, but we?ll keep you updated on any further information throughout the coming weeks and months!

Those who have been holding out for the white Galaxy Note from Samsung recently ran into some luck, with Telus releasing the handset. Now, Rogers and Bell have joined them in offering the white version of the popular Samsung device. Like Telus, both carriers are offering the tablet/smartphone cross-over for the same prices as the standard black version, as is standard practice.

If you?re interested in picking one of these up, all 3 carriers have its standard pricing at the $200 mark with a 3 year term, while Rogers offers it the cheapest outright at just $699.99 without a plan. [linki=http://www.mobileincanada.com/cellphone-1209-en-Bell-Samsung-Galaxy-Note.html]

LTE is quickly growing in popularity and availability in Canada, with the big 3 carriers offering connectivity in varying major urban areas. Rogers customers in Calgary and Halifax can now join in the LTE fun, experiencing significantly faster data speeds when in coverage areas.

In all, Rogers? LTE network is live in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, and surrounding areas for each. They also recently launched it in St John?s, Newfoundland, and now Halifax and Calgary can be added to the list. In the press release for the Halifax/Calgary launch, Rogers also mentioned Edmonton will see the network soon as well, sometime ?in the coming months?. Hopefully the expansion doesn?t stop any time soon!

Rogers, Bell, and Telus offer up a 6GB data plan seasonally, usually corresponding with each year's iPhone launch, but now Videotron is looking to get in on the competition. They have recently introduced their own 6GB data plan, which is priced at $30 monthly. Unfortunately, the offer is listed as "available for a limited time", so if you're looking for more data usage allowance and are with the popular Quebec carrier, be sure to get ahold of them soon to add it to your account. With any luck, Videotron's introduction of this data package will put the pressure on other major carriers, and they too will re-introduce this type of package. Great job, Videotron!

Telus has surprisingly kept its Mike network active, and have actually launched another device for users of the push-to-talk service. The Motorola i420 is now available for $249.99 contract-free, and offers the Direct Connect feature that made the network, and compatible devices popular years ago. It features a 1.79" (128x160) display, flip form factor, and a number of basic features including bluetooth, GPS, and a VGA camera. While this may not serve as much news for regular consumers, the fact that Telus isn't letting up on this network should be a good indication for business owners and managers that they can continue to rely on it for direct (and instant) communication between its members.

Staples wasn't previously known for being a major retailer when it comes to mobile products, but they are certainly stepping up their game with the recent popularization of tablets. First they launched the BlackBerry PlayBook, right along with the carriers and other department stores to carry it. Now, they have updated their inventory to include two Android tablets, the Acer Iconia 10" tablet, and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. They are also offering a Windows 7 tablet, also an Acer Iconia 10" model

The Android-powered Acer Iconia runs Gingerbread 3.0, and is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor. It has a 10.1" (1280x800) touchscreen display, and features a 5MP rear-facing camera, and a 2MP front-facing secondary camera. It has a microHDMI port, and comes with 32GB of internal memory, along with a microSD card slot and connectivity options including Wi-Fi and bluetooth. The Android Acer Iconia 10" tablet is available for ordering now from Staples for $499.99. Unfortunately it's currently marked as an "Extended Delivery Product", meaning it will take 1-2 weeks for delivery. Additionally, it isn't available in-store as of yet, but should be coming to retail locations soon.

There is also a Windows 7 based Acer Iconia tablet available through the retailer, which features a 10.1" LED-backlit touchscreen display, and 2GB of RAM. It has a dual-core 1GHz AMD processor, and comes with 32GB of internal storage. The Windows 7 Iconia has two 1.3MP cameras (one in the front, one in the back), and features Wi-Fi and bluetooth connectivity. It comes with 2 USB 2.0 ports, and an HDMI port for wired connectivity as well. One of the best things about the Windows 7 Iconia tablet is that it comes with a full QWERTY keyboard dock, making typing significantly easier on the go. The dock also includes an additional USB port, and an Ethernet port for faster wired internet connectivity when at home. The Windows 7 Acer Iconia tablet is available from Staples now, though is also an "Extended Delivery Product". Orders will be shipped within 1-2 weeks and the device is not yet available at retail locations.

The last tablet on the list of recent additions to Staples line-up is the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, which is available in 16GB or 32GB versions. It has a 10.1" (1280x800) touchscreen display, and is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. It runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and has a 5MP camera, in addition to a 2MP front-facing secondary camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and bluetooth, and it has a microHDMI port, in addition to a microUSB, full USB 2.0, and microSD card slot. The Asus Eee Transformer is available under the same conditions as the previous two tablets, with expected delivery taking 1-2 weeks. It isn't available in retail locations either, but will hopefully be added to store shelves soon. One of the major features of the Asus Eee Transformer is the attachable dock, which not only gives users a full QWERTY keyboard, but significant extension in battery life. No word on when this additional accessory will be made available, but it shouldn't take too long!

Sony Ericsson used be known for their Walkman and Cyber-shot handsets, and were met with considerable success as a manufacturer before smartphones became popular. Lately, they have been placing most of their focus on Android devices, and it looks like the specialties might re-appear, together.

Images were recently leaked online of a Sony Ericsson Xperia handset that is branded with "cyber-shot" text. There isn't any Android branding on the device, that's visible anyways, but the button layout strongly hints at that it will be an Android handset. While this one is definitely still just a rumour, it makes sense that Sony Ericsson would make a move like this. Hopefully we'll see this device, or something similar, launch very soon!

We just let you know that Mobilicity was getting set to launch the HTC Panache, which is known otherwise as the HTC Glacier/myTouch 4G. An Android Gingerbread ROM was recently leaked that was filled with Videotron-related items, even having the popular Quebec carrier in the file name, indicating a near-future launch from them as well. No word yet on exactly when the Glacier will be released, or at what price, but we'll be sure to keep you updated. It's definitely great to see smaller carriers launching high-end Android devices. Keep them coming, Videotron! The HTC Glacier features Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.8" (480x800) display, and is pwoered by a 1GHz processor and 768MB of RAM. It comes with a 5MP camera with LED flash and 720p recording capabilities, and supports bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity.

Back in February, HTC announced the Flyer, their first android tablet. The Flyer has a 7" (1024x600) touchscreen display, and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch, though it will eventually see Honeycomb. It's powered by a 1.5GHz processor, and will run HTC's latest version of Sense specifically designed for tablets. One of the features that makes the Flyer stand out is the Scribe technology, which aims to repopularize stylus use.

The HTC Flyer was recently added to HTCSense.com's Canadian section, on the device registration page. Hopefully the addition of the device means a near-future launch. With the original announcement stating that the Flyer would be available globally in Q2, we should see this new tablet available sometime this summer.
