It looks like Fido is preparing to launch their first Android handset - the Acer Liquid E. This device will launch running Android 2.1 Eclair, but will apparently get the update as soon as the software is made available. Typically, newer Android OS versions are released on a staggered basis from different carriers due to internal testing procedures, but it looks like the Liquid E won't see the delay like other handsets (X10, Magic +, etc).

The Liquid E features a 3.5" (480 x 800) display, 5MP camera, and all of your standard connectivity options including 3G, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and GPS. It is expected to launch on Wednesday, September 29th for $50 on a 3 year term, or $350 contract-free, and is a great Android handset for those looking for a balance between affordability and features.

Apparently the handset will be available for $50 on a 3 year term, or $350 contract-free, so if you're looking to pick up an Android handset, this might be one worth checking out. We haven't heard any word from carriers regarding this one yet, but Acer has updated their Canadian site to include the Acer Liquid E Ferrari Special Edition. Specs don't seem to differ from the Acer Liquid E Rogers recently released, but it does feature a new, sleek Ferrari design. In summary, specifications include a 3.5" (480x800) display, 5MP camera, 512MB of RAM, and an under-clocked Snapdragon 768MHz processor. No word yet on which carrier this will be coming to, but Rogers is the only one offering the existing Liquid E. We'll be sure to let you know more once these details are released, along with release dates and pricing.

Rogers confirmed today that the Sony Ericsson X10 will be getting an update to Android OS 2.1 sometime this coming fall. Currently, the device runs Android 1.6 with Timescape, and is one of Rogers top-end devices. Rogers has also confirmed that they will be testing Android OS 2.1 on the HTC Magic+ sometime in June, though we will have to wait to see if the update runs well enough to be provided to users.

The confirmed X10 update will make it the second device running this version of Android OS, trailing behind the Acer Liquid E that just launched.
