Sony, which recently took over on the Sony Ericsson side of things, has officially announced another addition to their Xperia line-up, the sola. The sola has one feature that stands out in particular, its ?floating touch? display. It measures in at a pretty standard 3.7? (480 x 854), but lets you browse the web by hovering your finger to control a ?cursor?, and tapping to click. If it works fluidly, this could be especially helpful when clicking small links, and will bring the Xperia sola one step closer to desktop-like browsing.

Other specifications for the sola include its dual-core 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and 8 GB of internal memory. It features a 5 MP camera with LED flash and 720p video capture, along with the usual Sony features like the Mobile Bravia Engine. Connectivity includes HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC for those early adopters.

The Sony Xperia sola will be available in white, black, and red when it launches globally in a few months. No confirmation as of yet that it will be launching in Canada, but with most Sony handsets hitting our soil early, we?re hoping for a prompt and quick release here. Interested? We?ll keep you updated as more information is made available!

New entrant Mobilicity has just launched their network in two more major cities today, Edmonton and Vancouver, and has officially confirmed the Ottawa launch will take place tomorrow. Along with the launch comes 100 retail outlets throughout Vancouver, and 20 locations in both Edmonton and Ottawa. This makes 5 cities for Mobilicity and should help them grow!

In addition to the new network launches, Mobilicity has also slimmed down their price plan line-up to just 3 packages. None of the price plans come with data, so customers who wish to get data access will have to subscribe to the new $10 data add-on. The 3 new price plans are:

$25/monthly: Unlimited Local Calling, Text and Picture Messaging, Caller I.D., and Mobilicity to Mobilicity Calling.

$35/monthly: Unlimited Local Calling, Text and Picture Messaging, Caller I.D., Mobilicity to Mobilicity Calling, Voicemail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, 3 Way Calling, and Province Wide Long Distance.

$45/monthly: Unlimited Local Calling, Text and Picture Messaging, Caller I.D., Mobilicity to Mobilicity Calling, Voicemail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, 3 Way Calling, Province Wide Long Distance, Canadian Long Distance, U.S. Long Distance, and Global Text Messaging.

We expect Mobilicity to launch in another few cities by the end of November, and so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that they have extended their Friends and Family program to November 30th, giving access to this plan to many others in the first couple weeks of launch. The Friends and Family pricing will get customers who know a Mobilicity employee the $45 plan for just $30/month, or the $65 plan for just $40/month. Stay tuned for more information regarding the Edmonton and Vancouver launches!

Thanks to an internal document leaked online, we have a bit of information regarding two Bell BlackBerry launches - the red version of the Torch 9800, and the upcoming BlackBerry Style 9670. The Torch 9800 in red has all of the same features and specifications as the standard black version, but comes with red housing, and will be launched on November 23rd according to the doc.

The Style runs BlackBerry OS 6 at launch, and has a 5MP camera, along with Wi-Fi (b, g, n), bluetooth, and GPS connectivity options.

The Torch 9800 in red will be available for the same 3-year price as the black version, which on Bell is currently $179.95. The Style 9670 will apparently be available for $399.95 contract-free, though term pricing hasn't been found as of yet.
