LTE is quickly growing in popularity and availability in Canada, with the big 3 carriers offering connectivity in varying major urban areas. Rogers customers in Calgary and Halifax can now join in the LTE fun, experiencing significantly faster data speeds when in coverage areas.

In all, Rogers? LTE network is live in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, and surrounding areas for each. They also recently launched it in St John?s, Newfoundland, and now Halifax and Calgary can be added to the list. In the press release for the Halifax/Calgary launch, Rogers also mentioned Edmonton will see the network soon as well, sometime ?in the coming months?. Hopefully the expansion doesn?t stop any time soon!

All three big carriers are now offering LTE connectivity in major urban areas, with network expansion apparently in the works. When it comes to Android tablets with support for the ultra-fast network, Bell and Telus currently offer the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE, and Rogers has the HTC Jetstream.

The Tab 8.9 LTE is about to find its third home in Canada, however, with Rogers preparing to launch it in the near-future. Dummy units have arrived at some retail stores, though a specific launch date and pricing haven?t been confirmed as of yet. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE features an 8.9? (1280 x 800) touch screen display, and is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM. It comes with 16 GB of internal storage, a 3 MP rear-facing camera with 720p video capture, and 2 MP front-facing camera. It runs on Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and comes in at 8.6 mm thin.

Interested? We?ll keep you posted as more information becomes available!

Wind Mobile recently announced that they are working on expanding their network coverage in the coming year, but no further details were made available. Now, however, a newspaper article containing an interview with WIND Mobile CEO Ken Campbell, gives information on what may be in their future.

According to the article, WIND Mobile will be launching in Atlantic Canada, starting in 2012. Nova Scotia is first on the list it seems, and the company is in the planning stages including tower sites, store locations, and more. They also have "aggressive expansion plans for the remainder of 2011', hopefully in other major cities across the country.

Public Mobile has been slowly expanding coverage areas, and Burlington is the most recently added community to get service from the new-entrant carrier. Along with the network launch, Public Mobile has also opened two new retail stores in the area to serve customers, at 650 Plains Road, and 796 Brant Street. Coverage in the Burlington area "continues from Oakville (Burloak Drive) in the East extending to the border with Hamilton (intersection of Highway 403 and Highway 6). Coverage is available from the lake north to Mainway (East of Guelph Line) and to Highway 403 (West of Guelph Line)." With 10 stores available throughout Oakville, Hamilton, and Burlington, Public Mobile's expansion seems to be going well. Keep growing!

Mobilicity is on a roll lately with their discounted handsets, price plans, and add-ons, and now they're offering up an amazing deal for friends and family of their employees. The new program, which is intended for those who know Mobilicity employees, gives users the option between 2 highly discounted plans - the $45 unlimited plan for just $25/month, and the $65 unlimited plan for just $35/month. If you know someone who works for Mobilicity, make sure to get in touch with them and ask about this amazing program, as they're probably the cheapest and most value-filled options available (as long as you're in a Mobilicity coverage zone). With all of these amazing deals, all that's left for the new entrant is expansion into more cities, which we'll hopefully see in the near future.
