Research in Motion has recently recalled approximately 1000 BlackBerry PlayBooks. According to an official statement from RIM, the recall is due to an issue with some PlayBooks being "unable to properly load software upon initial set-up". The statement also points out that many of the affected devices are still in the distribution channels and haven't reached customers, so hopefully few people will be impacted.

While this recall certainly can't help RIM and the PlayBook's success, it is a fairly small number in comparison to the number of units sold. Users who do experience the described issue are encouraged to contact RIM to determine next steps.

Mobilicity has recently placed more of a focus on distribution channels, adding two more companies to their list of agreements intended to get their products and services out to more people. Both HMV, and 50 Zellers locations will now carry Mobilicity products and services, which is a nice variety of partners when taking their recent 7-eleven deal into consideration as well. Apparently Zellers locations in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Ottawa are already set-up, while HMV locations in Toronto and Ottawa are setting up throughout the holiday season.

We've seen multiple carriers sign distribution deals with various outlets, and now Mobilicity has joined in. Mobilicity has signed with their first major distribution partner, 7-Eleven, and products will be available at 150 stores throughout Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton before the end of the year. Mobilicity has maintained a focus on simplicity and convenience, and state that the availability of their products at 7-Eleven locations "will only add to that convenient customer experience". With their launch in 3 more cities, and this new distribution deal, Mobilicity should see some growth in the near-future.

Many carriers have been exploring distribution options as of lately, looking to expand the retail outlets in which they can sell their products and services, and the latest to join in the effort is WIND Mobile. Now offering 4 of their devices in London Drugs locations in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, WIND Mobile will surely reach a wider audience, adding to BlockBuster and Valu Mobile as distribution partners. The devices available through London Drugs include the Huawei 1250, Huawei 8100, Nokia 5230 (black), and the Samsung Gravity 2(blue). Apparently 30 London Drugs locations are on board and offering these devices, spanning through the 3 cities listed above.

Public Mobile has recently gone live with their new distribution channel - Gateway Newsstands. In Toronto, there are currently 60 locations being co-branded with Public Mobile, mostly in TTC stations, GO stations, and some major office buildings. Apparently this number will increase to 120 by January, and will provide over a million people each day with access to their services/outlets. This is a great effort on Public Mobile's part, and hopefully it will be successful for them.

Rogers has recently partnered up with Sony Style retail locations to offer their products as a new distribution channel. With displays and devices already set up at many locations, Sony Style retail outlets should provide more success than Rogers' recent Shoppers Drug Mart distribution project. Depending on service availability, customers will be able to purchase wireless, cable, and internet products and services.

Rogers is starting a test project where wireless devices like phones and high speed rocket sticks will be sold in Shoppers Drug Mart location across the country. As a bonus for users who sign up at a Shoppers location, they will receive 50 000 Shoppers Optimum Bonus Points, a value of $85 apparently. This move follows many other carriers in expanding their distribution channels to additional retail stores, with Public Mobile possibly being the most recent having signed a deal with Gateway Newstands.
