Rogers customers who own a Dell Streak are in luck today, as the Android 2.2 Froyo update is being rolled out OTA(over-the-air). The update, which brings Adobe Flash support and Dell's "Stage" software, is available now, and Streak users should be prompted to update the next time their phone is rebooted. The other main benefit users will experience with this new OS version is significantly wider compatibility with recently released apps, as many developers are designing their products to function with Android OS 2.0 or higher only.

Note: Some users are experiencing issues when updating their Streak's OTA, stating that they experience repeated "Force close" problems immediately after the update. Be sure to manually back up your crucial data before performing the upgrade. Lastly, if you do experience the "Force close" problem after updating, try navigating the menus and perform a Factory Reset on the device, as this reportedly fixes the problem and leaves you with a fresh Android 2.2 Froyo install.

Some exciting news for Android lovers has come out recently, with Google announcing the Google Nexus S and officially advertising Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread. The new OS version will be coming to the Google Nexus One within the next few weeks apparently, while it will first be found on the new Nexus S that is set for launch in the U.S. On December 16th.

OS 2.3 Gingerbread is said to be the fastest Android OS version to date, and provides a newly updated keyboard, some user interface refinements, and more. The Nexus S, Google newest developer phone set to launch in the U.S. on December 16th, is a powerful device that can easily rival the top smartphone in the market today. Featuring a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 4" (800x480) touch screen display, 16GB of internal memory, and 512MB of RAM, the internal specifications are powerful. The Nexus S doesn't stop there though, also featuring NFC (Near-field communications), a 5MP camera capable of recording HD video, Wi-Fi (b, g, n), and of course GPS and bluetooth connectivity. The Nexus S will be available on Thursday, December 16th in the United States for $529USD at Best Buy, though no word yet on if or when it will available in Canada.

We just let you know that Telus will be carrying the HTC 7 Surround exclusively in Canada, but it seems as though Rogers is looking to get in on some exclusive Windows Phone 7 action as well. Expected to launch in early November (simultaneously with AT&T), the Samsung Focus features a 4" (480x800) Super AMOLED display, is powered by a 1GHz processor, and comes with 8GB of internal storage built-in. Additionally, the handset will be able to carry microSD cards up to 32GB, and the device offers up a 5MP camera to top off the impressive specifications. No definite word on pricing as of yet, but we expect it to come in around the $200 mark, as that's what AT&T will be offering it up for.

It's great to see Microsoft launching hard with some great manufacturers, and it's even better knowing they've put some solid time and effort into the new Windows Phone 7 operating system. Hopefully we'll see even more devices launched in the near-future, and as developers get some time with the new tools, we should see a large variety of applications ready at launch as well. This is truly an exciting day for anybody who has been waiting for the official Windows Phone 7 announcements!

BlackBerry recently released App World 2.0 to the public, but many were disappointed to see that the long-awaited carrier billing feature had not been implemented. Within the Telus Torch 9800 launch announcement, there's a small piece of interesting information - Telus will be the first to offer carrier billing through App World, and it will be available "prior to the BlackBerry Torch launch", though no word on exactly when that will be. Hopefully the easier payment method will encourage developers to create more apps for the platform, which currently lacks compared to iPhone and Android in that department.

Google have stated on the Android Developers Blog that they will be introducing new payment methods to the Android Market on "authorized carriers". At this time there is no further information available as to when this change will be made, or if any Canadian carriers will be supported at launch, but developments like this can only mean positive changes in the future - no matter how far away. Speculation points to a delayed release of the new payment method north of the border, seeing as paid applications took significantly longer to come to Canada than the U.S., but we'll be sure to keep you informed.

If one believes CNET of them, Cingular would have confirmed that the iPhone of Apple will be available to the sale next on June 11. This information is to be taken with prudence. The escape would come from a agent of the sales who would be well placed to Cingular and which did not reveal its identity obviously. What would coincide with Apple Worldwide Developers Conference where Apple often announced new products.
