Sony, which recently took over on the Sony Ericsson side of things, has officially announced another addition to their Xperia line-up, the sola. The sola has one feature that stands out in particular, its ?floating touch? display. It measures in at a pretty standard 3.7? (480 x 854), but lets you browse the web by hovering your finger to control a ?cursor?, and tapping to click. If it works fluidly, this could be especially helpful when clicking small links, and will bring the Xperia sola one step closer to desktop-like browsing.

Other specifications for the sola include its dual-core 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and 8 GB of internal memory. It features a 5 MP camera with LED flash and 720p video capture, along with the usual Sony features like the Mobile Bravia Engine. Connectivity includes HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC for those early adopters.

The Sony Xperia sola will be available in white, black, and red when it launches globally in a few months. No confirmation as of yet that it will be launching in Canada, but with most Sony handsets hitting our soil early, we?re hoping for a prompt and quick release here. Interested? We?ll keep you updated as more information is made available!

Thanks to press release recently published online, we have a solid launch date and pricing for Bell's upcoming Motorola Atrix. The Atrix, which will be Canada's first dual-core mobile phone, is set to launch on March 17th, with a 3-year price tag of $169.95, and a contract-free cost of $599.95.

The Motorola Atrix features a 4" (540x960) qHD touchscreen display, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, and runs OS 2.2 Froyo at launch. Powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, the Atrix doesn't leave anything behind when it comes to hardware specifications, which is further displayed by it's 48GB maximum storage capacity using the 16GB of on-board memory, and a 32GB microSD card. What's better? The Atrix is capable of download speeds of up to 14.4Mbps using Bell's network, meaning fast browsing, syncing, and more!

If you've been waiting for a feature-rich and high-powered Android handset, the Motorola Atrix is probably a good handset to consider. Will you be picking one up?

We just let you know that Virgin Mobile has reduced the cost of their data packages by $5/monthly, and now it's WIND's turn to crank up the competition. A few days ago, select non-data BlackBerry users began receiving promotional text messages offering them free data services until April 15th. The text message selected users are receiving reads: "Hey BlackBerry user?try FREE data with our Infinite BlackBerry add-on until Apr-15. Interested? Reply Y to this message and start browsing, BBM, email & more". WIND Mobile is currently one of the only carriers that haven't made data services mandatory for smartphones, but with their contract-free handset purchase structure, it doesn't come as much of a surprise that they're enticing customers with this promotion, rather than forcing them into data package subscriptions.

Many X10 users were hoping to get pinch-to-zoom along with the Android 2.1 OS update, though the feature wasn't included unfortunately. In the past, Sony Ericsson has stated that the feature will never come to the X10, however they've recently reconsidered the idea and have decided to provide it in an OTA update sometime in Q1 next year. Apparently the feature won't be available to all markets, so fingers crossed that we get it here in Canada. Additionally, they have stated that the feature will only be available for select uses, such as web browsing and Google Maps. We'll be sure to let you know if more information becomes available.
