KOODO Mobile has launched the Samsung Evergreen, their first eco-friendly handset for those want to have as little impact on the environment as possible. The Evergreen has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 2.4" (240x320) display, and 2MP camera with video recording capabilities. The Optimus One also has connectivity options including GPS, bluetooth, and Wi-Fi (including hotspot capabilities). According to recent online leaks, Rogers is getting set to launch the Dell venue Pro sometime in March, a Windows Phone 7 device. The Venue Pro features a 4.1" (480x800) AMOLED touchscreen display, a 5MP camera with 720p recording capabilities, and a full QWERTY keyboard. Coming with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 8GB of internal storage memory, this Dell handset should be able to compete with most other smartphones on the market today. No word yet on pricing, or an exact launch date, but the latest information is pointing to a March release.

Exciting news came to us yesterday, when we found out that RIM is working on 3 new devices planned for launch later in 2011. The new devices add NFC (near field communications) technology, and are expected to launch with an OS version of 6.1.

The BlackBerry Curve "Apollo" is the next generation handset in the Curve series, and comes in at just 11mm thick. Featuring a full QWERTY keyboard, an HVGA (480x360) display, and a 5MP camera, the Apollo should make a great addition to RIM's handset line-up.

Next up the BlackBerry "Dakota", which looks like it may be the next generation in the Bold series. The Dakota has been rumoured for about a year now, but with more information finally surfacing on the internet, it looks like it may become a reality. The Dakota features a 2.8" (640x480) touch screen display, while retaining the typical BlackBerry form factor including the full QWERTY keyboard. The Dakota also comes with a 5MP camera with LED flash and HD video capture capabilities, and measures in at just 10.5mm thick.

Last in the list of new BlackBerry devices that were recently leaked is none other than the Torch 2, a BlackBerry with specs that compare to top end Android/iOS devices. The Torch 2 will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor, and features a 3.2" (640x480) display, a 5MP camera (presumably with HD video recording capabilities), along with 512Mb of RAM, 8GB of onboard internal memory, and NFC technology just like the other two devices.

No definite word on when we can expect to see these devices launch, but speculation is pointing at Q3 or so this year. With these devices launching with OS 6.1, it's unlikely that we'll see the PlayBook's QNX OS come to BlackBerry handsets this year, so if you're holding out for that, it may be quote the wait.

It looks like Bell is getting set to launch another Android device, this time the LG Optimus Chic. The Chic runs on Android 2.2 Froyo at launch, a 3.2" (320x480) touch screen display, 5MP camera, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Powered by a 600MHz processor, the Chic isn't the most impressive Android handset on the market, but it certainly is affordable. Revealed information points the LG Optimus Chic launching either on Friday, January 14th, or the following Monday, the 17th, with pricing of $249.95 contract-free, or $0 with a 3 year term.

The BlackBerry Bold is officially coming to WIND Mobile, and what's better is that pricing has been revealed. Coming in at $450, the Bold 9780 will make a great option for those interested in being with WIND, and is affordable too, in fact, that is the cheapest contract-free price in Canada so far for the device. The Bold 9780 features OS 6 out-of-box, which adds the WebKit browser, an updated UI, and several other improvements, in addition to a 5MP camera with flash. No word yet on exactly when this handset will launch, but it's currently marked as "coming soon", so the wait shouldn't be too long!

Canadians who own the Bold 9700 or Curve 3G have been experiencing a long wait for RIM's BlackBerry OS 6 to come to their devices, and oddly enough, the first carrier in Canada to go live with the new OS version is Mobilicity. BlackBerry OS 6 features a number of improvements over the previous OS 5 version, including the new WebKit browser, an updated UI, and a number of improvements to the Media player. This is definitely great news for those on Mobilicity, but those who own either of these devices from other carriers shouldn't worry too much, as official updates should be available fairly soon for all users. We've been getting some great news on the next generation Android phones that will soon hit Canadian soil, so it's great to get the news that the Samsung Google Nexus S will be coming to Canada. Featuring NFC capabilities, the Nexus S runs Android 2.3, and also features a 4" (480x800) super AMOLED touch screen display, a 1GHz processor, and a 5MP camera capable of recording 720p HD video. Coming with 16GB of memory and 512MB of RAM, the Nexus S isn't the biggest step up from other Android devices on the market today, but definitely makes for a good option.
